The area surrounding the base of the Mahanay Bell Tower is getting a spruce-up this month after being left rather “un-done” when the sidewalk approaches were changed as part of the Streetscape project two years ago.

Dave Briggs, doing business as DADD’s Landscaping, is building a short brick planter that will follow the contour of the base of tower. The plants will be maintained by courthouse custodial staff. Briggs said the plants haven’t yet been picked out, but he will suggest low maintenance perennials. A two-color blend of rock will be used rather than mulch around the plants. According to Briggs, the rock will be of a size too small to break glass or a windshield, should it be used mischievously.

The work should be done before the Bell Tower Festival June 13-14, Briggs said.
